Ferry services on the Aricha-Kazirhat and Paturia-Daulathdia route were suspended due to dense fog, Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation officials said on Wednesday.
BIWTC Aricha regional office deputy general manager Shah Mohammad Khaled Newaz said that the dense fog covered the river beds of the River Jamuna and the River Padma. Ferry services between Aricha and Kazirhat were suspended at about 11:00pm on Tuesday while ferry services on Paturia-Daulatdia route were suspended at about 1:30am on Wednesday, he added.
Five ferries — Ruhul Amin, Sha Ali, Enayetpuri, Rajanigandha and Hasna Hena — were anchored in the middle of the River Padma and River Jamuna.
Two ferries — Begum Sufiya Kamal and Begum Rokeya — were anchored at Aricha Terminal.
Seven ferries — Bir Shreshtha Jahangir, Shaheed Barkat, Motiur Rahman, Keramat Ali, Kumilla, Korobi and Bonolata — were anchored at Paturia Terminal along with vehicles and passengers.
Four ferries — Faridpur, Khan Jahan Ali, Bir Shreshtha Hamidur Rahman and Shah Paran were anchored at Daulatdia Terminal.
